I am Dr. Sumit Navarkar, a first-year MD resident in the Department of General Medicine at Sukh Sagar Medical College, Jabalpur. Originally from Nashik, Maharashtra, I am part of the inaugural batch of this institute. So far, my residency experience has been very positive, and I am genuinely enjoying both the clinical work and the learning environment here.
1. Department Environment
Being the first batch, the department environment is very encouraging and evolving. There is a strong sense of teamwork, and seniors are extremely helpful and approachable. The atmosphere is positive and non-toxic, which makes it easier to learn and work efficiently.
2. Teaching Quality
Teaching is good with regular case discussions, bedside clinics, and presentations. Since it’s a developing department, there is active involvement from both faculty and residents in shaping the academic structure. Learning is more practical and clinically oriented.
3. Workload / Duty Hours
Workload is significant as expected in Medicine, but it is manageable due to good support from seniors. Duty hours can be long, especially during emergencies, but the work distribution is fair.
4. Hostels and Living Conditions
Hostel facilities are decent with basic amenities eg. AC/Free Laundry/comfortable Beds/single room facilities available. Being a newer setup, there is scope for improvement, but overall living conditions are comfortable and manageable.
5. Patient Load and Learning Opportunities
Hands-on experience is excellent. As the first batch, residents get ample opportunities to perform procedures and actively manage patients. The patient load is sufficient to ensure good clinical exposure without overwhelming residents.
6. Overall Vibes
The overall vibe is very positive and motivating. Seniors are cooperative, there is no unnecessary toxicity, and peer support is strong. It’s a good place to grow both clinically and personally.
7. Location & Surroundings
The college is located around 15 km from Jabalpur, offering a peaceful and natural environment. The surroundings are green and calm, with good air quality (AQI), which adds to overall well-being during residency. The climate and atmosphere make it a pleasant place to live and work, especially compared to crowded urban setups.
Final Take:-
A great place for residency, especially for those who value hands-on learning, a supportive non-toxic environment, and a peaceful natural setting. Being the first batch adds the advantage of more opportunities and close mentorship.
